Surly maeks several well-designed steel framesets that we sell. All of their road frames have generous clearances for larger tires and fender mounts. Their Crosscheck frameset is the best all-around frameset you'll find for its price. We recommend it often, and you can find an example on our gallery page.

The Crosscheck, Steamoller, and Long Haul Trucker are available as complete bikes as well. We aren't shy about saying that we like to build bike from the frame up--because they function and look better than the stock models, but complete stock bikes do save money. When companies decide they're getting the same parts on 1000 or 10,000 bikes, they get a real sweet deal on the components, which saves you money.
